Bačvice beach is a popular city beach located in the vibrant coastal city of Split, situated approximately 13 kilometers away from our house, in the Split city center. This beach is well-known among both locals and tourists for its lively atmosphere and beautiful surroundings.
When I mention that it's crowded, I truly mean it; especially during the peak summer months, the beach can become quite packed with sunbathers, families, and beachgoers all seeking to enjoy the sun and sea. The shallow waters, which extend almost 1 kilometer out, make it an ideal spot for families with young children, as they can safely play and splash around without the immediate risk of deep water. The gentle slope of the beach into the sea allows for a gradual transition, making it perfect for kids to explore and enjoy the water without parents having to worry too much.
However, it’s important to note that once you venture beyond the shallow areas, visibility can quickly diminish. As you go further out into the deeper parts of the sea, it becomes increasingly difficult to keep track of your belongings on the beach, such as your towel and personal items. Therefore, it is always advisable to go to the beach in groups. This way, you can designate someone to stay ashore while the others enjoy the water, ensuring that valuable items are not left unattended. If possible, the best solution would be to leave any valuables at home, minimizing the risk of theft altogether.
With the large number of visitors frequenting Bačvice beach, it is crucial to keep a vigilant eye on your children. While the atmosphere is generally safe and friendly, the combination of shallow waters and a bustling crowd can make it all too easy to lose sight of them amidst the throngs of people.

Duće beach would undoubtedly be my first choice when considering all the aspects written above of Bačvice, especially if I were not a local resident. Despite the fact that Duće is situated approximately 37 kilometers away from our house, its allure and charm make it a tempting destination. However, as a local, I have developed a deeper familiarity with the surrounding areas, which significantly influences my beach-going habits. One of the primary reasons I rarely venture to Duće is the notorious traffic congestion when returning home - entering Split from that direction. This particular entrance is recognized as the second most crowded entry point in the entire country, which can lead to frustrating delays. In practical terms, what this means for me is that a journey that should only take around 20 minutes can often extend to an hour or even two, depending on the time of day and the volume of traffic. This reality can be quite off-putting, especially when one is eager to enjoy a day at the beach. Nevertheless, it is essential to acknowledge that Duće beach itself is nothing short of perfect. The picturesque scenery, the inviting waters, and the overall atmosphere create a delightful beach experience.
For those who are willing to make the trip early in the day, there are significant advantages. Arriving early not only allows for a more pleasant drive, but it also increases the likelihood of finding prime spots in the shade, which can be a crucial factor during the hot summer months. Additionally, early birds can secure accessible free parking, which is often a challenge as the day progresses and more visitors flock to the beach.
